CARLTON is proud to supply veterinary staff
without impacting on the environment.
Carlton Professional Recruitment
went carbon neutral in April 2006. We are very proud
of the fact that through steps taken, the supply of
veterinary staff to
our clients is now carbon neutral . This
meaning that the everyday functioning of our company
does not add any further carbon to the atmosphere.
How do we achieve this? We have
approached this in a multi-factorial way. The ethos
behind it is to reduce our overall carbon emissions
(from fuel, flights, gas, electricity and waste) and
then to finally offset our inevitable carbon production.
Carbon Reduction:
April 2005 to March 2006 our carbon production was 29
tonnes. This was calculated from adding together our
fuel use from miles travelled, electricity, gas and air
flights. As this was our first year and start point
we had no option but to offset this entire amount.
Our ongoing aim though is to reduce to zero any waste
energy use and we look forward to seeing in April 2007
what we have achieved.
We have reduced our carbon in the following ways:
Electricity:
- Changed our electricity supplier to one that supplies
from renewable sources.
- All light bulbs changed to energy saving bulbs
( this alone reduces our electricity use for lighting
to a quarter!)
- Turn off all lights when not
in a room. ( We now have “TURN THAT OFF” sticker
everywhere!)
- Turn off all computer and
electrical equipment at
the wall overnight, where possible.
- Tea time! Only boil enough water that we need.
Heating:
- Ensured our building
is insulated and windows closed in winter
- Installed a digital/programmable heating thermostat
and located it centrally in the building.
- Turn our thermostat down from 23C to 21C
- Heating the building strategically
for when it’s
needed and turning it down low on weekends.
Fuel:
- Make trips only as necessary.
- Drive efficiently. All common sense.
Waste reduction and production:
- Changes our paper use and ongoing business stationary
to recycled paper
- Waste paper is all collected and recycled.
Carbon Offset:
It is evident that we will inevitably use some fossil
fuel to supply the energy needs of the company. This
we can offset so that our overall carbon production
is countered by projects to reduce or remove an equivalent
amount of carbon from the atmosphere.
Offsetting takes two forms:
- Planting trees to absorb and remove carbon dioxide
from the atmosphere and supply oxygen.
- Funding projects to reduce carbon production and
fossil fuel reliance.
Carlton Professional Recruitment
Ltd has offset its carbon use through both of the above
means, using an independent company CO2BALANCE. They
can be contacted at co2balance.com.
